Ocean City has decided to pick up some renewable energy from a deal to build a 10-megawatt solar project over 113 acres.

The resort will partner with Constellation, an Exelon energy company.

The Salisbury Daily Times reports that the resort will get 3.5 megawatts of power while Eastman Chemical Company with get the rest.

The facility will be located around 10 miles west of Ocean City with a ground breaking ceremony set for Thursday morning at the intersection of Routes 50 and 90.

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Dominion Energy Virginia's latest long-term power forecast calls for an increase in solar generation as well as the construction of at least eight new natural gas-fired power plants.

Virginia's largest utility laid out its plans Tuesday in a regulatory filing called an integrated resource plan. The plan is intended to show how the company will meet customer needs and comply with regulations over a 15-year span.

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Gov. Terry McAuliffe is announcing a new 20 megawatt solar project in Sussex County.

The governor's office announced Thursday that permits had been approved for the project, which is under development by a subsidiary of Dominion Resources.

The project is expected to produce enough power for 3,500 homes.

McAuliffe has made expanding the use of solar panels a priority of his administration. Virginia has lagged behind neighboring North Carolina in solar generation for years.

Solar Power is getting a grassroots look. The Maryland Solar United Neighborhoods is in Wicomico County to pitch the idea of homeowners forming a cooperative to ge access to discounts and grants for installation. A solar power developer has plans for a 6 mega-watt commercial site on Plantation Road just northeast of Crisfield.

The project by OneEnergy Renewables would provide enough electricity for more than a 1-thousand homes from more than 21-thousand solar panels.  

The Salisbury Daily Times reports that the Maryland Public Service Commission has set a hearing for Wednesday in Princess Anne for public comment.   

In addition, the Somerset County planning commission will also have to give its okay.

A final decision is expected by Marth 11th for $17 million project.

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - State regulators have rejected Dominion Virginia Power's first proposed large-scale solar project in the state.

The State Corporation Commission said Tuesday that Dominion failed to demonstrate that it considered third-party market alternatives, as required by law, for the 20-megawatt Remington Power Station in Fauquier County. The project would provide enough power for 5,000 homes at peak generation.

The commission said Dominion can reapply after considering whether cheaper third-party alternatives are available.

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Dominion Virginia Power is seeking bids for up to 20 megawatts of new solar capacity.

The company is soliciting proposals for solar arrays between 1 and 20 megawatts. They would be on line next year or in 2017.

Dominion says the proposals can be either power purchase agreements or the purchase of development projects.

The company said it will announce the results of the solar solicitation in its fourth quarter.

The famed Amazon Company best known for ordering books and other things off online will be putting its name on a solar project in Accomack County.

It’s called the Amazon Solar Farm US East.

The web services company has joined the developer Community Energy Incorporated based in Pennsylvania under a long term power purchase agreement.

The $150 million project will provide 80-megawatts of power.

The Salisbury Daily Times reports that it will feed the electrical grids that power the current and future Amazon data centers.

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Dominion Virginia Power is seeking to convert sunshine into power at four public schools.

The utility is seeking applications from schools in its service area under a program aimed at helping students learn about solar energy.

The company's philanthropic arm, the Dominion Foundation, will select the four schools that will receive the 1 kilowatt photovoltaic system.

Dominion says 1 kilowatt is enough electricity to power 15 desktop computers, 33 ten-gallon aquariums, or three 42-inch plasma TVs.

LINTHICUM HEIGHTS, Md. (AP) - More than 200 new jobs are coming to Maryland over the next three years as the result of a solar power company's expansion.

Officials with Astrum Solar on Tuesday announced plans to triple its 14,400 square-foot facility in Howard County, and add 240 new jobs by 2017.

Astrum Solar Vice President Cory Byzewski said the company was committed to helping the state through job creation as well as through the environmental and financial benefits of solar power.
