DOVER, Del. (AP) — Police in Delaware's capital city say a shooting has left one person dead and four others wounded.

Police spokesman Master Corporal Mark Hoffman says the shooting happened shortly before 2 a.m. Monday in Dover.

Authorities say 34-year-old Tiffany Montgomery died after being shot in the upper body.

Officers also found a 27-year-old woman with a foot wound, a 39-year-old man with a shoulder wound, and a 45-year-old man with a leg injury at the scene.

DOVER, Del. (AP) — Police in Delaware confirm that a 15-year-old who called 911 to report he had been shot multiple times has died from his injuries.

A Dover police statement says Kainami Grant, of Milford, was shot in an alleyway before 10 p.m. on Monday night.

He had called authorities himself for help. Police said officers found Grant conscious when they arrived, but he later died from his injuries in a hospital.

There were no witnesses around and his identity wasn't immediately known.

WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) - Two teenagers and a 21-year-old man have been shot during weekend violence in Wilmington.

The News Journal reports that the first shooting happened shortly after 7 p.m. Friday in the city's Hedgeville section. Police did not release the extent of the 21-year-old victim's injuries, but said he was in stable condition.

The violence continued Saturday when a 16-year-old boy was shot just after 5 p.m. in the northwest section of the city. A second 16-year-old boy was shot hours later about a half-mile away. Both boys were listed in stable condition.

NORFOLK, Va. (AP) - Police say a shooting inside a Virginia mall wounded two people, including a female bystander.

News outlets report an argument led to the shooting at MacArthur Center in Norfolk on Monday night. Police Chief Larry Boone says two men encountered another man while walking on the lower level of the mall. Boone says one of the three men shot another. A 56-year-old woman who was nearby but not involved in the confrontation was also wounded.

Both of the shooting victims were treated at a hospital for injuries not considered life threatening.

SILVER SPRING, Md. (AP) - Police in Maryland say an officer who was shot while responding to a report of a disorderly person has died.

Acting Montgomery County Police Chief Marcus Jones told news reporters Monday that Officer Thomas J. Bomba had died after undergoing hospital treatment.

Bomba had reported Monday morning that he encountered "disorderly subjects" at a parking garage. Jones said that when fellow officers arrived, they found Bomba suffering from a gunshot wound.


DOVER, Del. (AP) - A Delaware nightclub that has been the scene of three shootings since May is closing, and the owner says he was pressured into the move because most of his patrons are black.

The Wilmington News Journal reports Allure Nightclub was shuttered Thursday, a day after three people were shot outside of the club.

Shawn Sheppard blames the state for closing him down, but Delaware Alcohol and Tobacco Enforcement officials said it came from the property's landlord.

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (AP) - Police say three teenagers who were shot after a high school football game in Virginia are expected to survive.

Newport News Police said via Twitter on Saturday that the shootings happened at the end of a football game at Todd Stadium on Friday night.

A 14-year-old victim was found in the stadium's parking lot. Two 19-year-olds were found on a street near the stadium. The victims were taken to hospitals for treatment of gunshot wounds. Police say none of the injuries are life-threatening.

ARLINGTON, Va. (AP) - Authorities in northern Virginia say they have found no evidence that a shooting occurred at a movie theater that's part of a popular mall.

Reports of a shooting had prompted panic and a large police presence Saturday night. But the Arlington County Police Department later tweeted that authorities had completed a preliminary search of the theater at the Ballston Quarter mall in Arlington without finding any evidence that a shooting took place.

WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) - Delaware State Police say a shooting at a nursing home in Wilmington has left two people dead.

Police say an 82-year-old man and a 79-year-old woman were pronounced dead at the scene Saturday afternoon at ManorCare of Wilmington. A handgun was recovered at the scene.

Authorities have not said who the shooter was or released the names of the man or woman.

Police say the building was cleared, and there were no concerns about public safety.

DOVER, Del. (AP) - The Delaware State Police are investigating a shooting that wounded a man in a tiny town in Kent County.

Troopers were alerted of an early Thursday shooting incident by officials at Bayhealth Kent General Hospital. When they arrived at the hospital they found a 34-year-old Magnolia man with a non-life threatening gunshot to a lower extremity.

State police say they have no suspect information.  It wasn't immediately clear if the wounded man was cooperating with investigators.

(AP) The city of Virginia Beach may soon commission an independent investigation into the mass shooting that claimed 12 lives last month, but the findings might not come out quickly enough for some victims' families, state lawmakers and city officials. 

City Council members delved into a debate Tuesday over how a third-party probe would proceed. One contentious issue is whether police would have control over when the separate investigation could begin.


ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) - A man who beat hundreds of other rappers to win a national competition in 2016 is dead, and police say he was shot.

Annapolis police said Saturday that 32-year-old Edward Montre Seay of Chester was shot while driving through the city on Friday night. His car crashed, and Seay died of his injuries.

Police spokeswoman Sgt. Amy Miguez said Seay was a rapper who performed under the name Tre Da Kid. Miguez did not respond when asked whether his death had any connection to his performing career.

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA. (AP) - Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam is calling for a special legislative session on gun control and is insisting that his proposals be voted on by the entire state legislature. He says Friday's killings in Virginia Beach call for "votes and laws, not thoughts and prayers."

A former linebacker with the University of Delaware was shot and killed on Wednesday in Baltimore.

The Wilmington News Journal reports that 28 year-old David Mackall was found by Baltimore police with wounds to his torso and head.

He was taken to local hospital where he died.

Dave Brock who was head coach during Mackall’s last two years told the paper that he was saddened at the news.

He added when this happens “it guts you” to think about the loss of potential of a student’s life.

Mackall was a father of two young sons.

A shooting took place at the Allure Nightclub in Dover on Saturday morning leaving a 21-year-old man wounded.

He was transported to Bayhealth Kent General Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

WBOC reports that police say a large fight broke out at around 1:30 a.m.

When police arrived they arrested one man but another fight broke out in the parking lot.

They say that shots were fired and the victim who was a witness to the melee was hit in the hip.

The suspect is described as a black male with dreadlocks and a red shirt.

BALTIMORE (AP) - Authorities say seven people have been shot, at least one fatally, in Baltimore.

Police department spokeswoman Chakia Fennoy said authorities received a call shortly after 5 p.m. Sunday reporting that multiple people had been shot.

Fennoy said one of the victims has died but that she had no information about the conditions of the others.

The shooting happened on a street in the western part of the city.

Fennoy says she has no immediate information on what prompted the shooting or of any suspect or suspects.

WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) - Police say six people were injured in a shooting in Wilmington, the News Journal reports.

Police say the shooting happened about 7:10 p.m. Sunday, police said. They added that the victims had non-life-threatening injuries and were listed in stable condition as of 9:45 p.m. Sunday.

Tiffany Brown told the News Journal that she was sitting on a stoop nearby when she heard at least seven gunshots around the corner on North Pine Street.  "Everybody heard the shots. It was like pop, pop, pop," she said.

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) - A judge is scheduled to hear arguments about whether a man charged with killing five people at a Maryland newspaper office should have more time to consider an insanity plea.

Anne Arundel County Circuit Court Judge Laura Ripken has a hearing set in Annapolis, Maryland, on Thursday with attorneys.

Attorneys for Jarrod Ramos have asked for more time to consider changing his plea to not criminally responsible, because they have received additional case materials from prosecutors.

There was a gathering last night at a Newark mosque where Delaware officials and religious leaders came together to discuss safety precautions in the wake of the New Zealand shooting that left 50 dead.

Among those attending were Governor John Carney as well as Senators Chris Coons and Tom Carper.

WBOC reports Coons declared that the state of Delaware government officials stand in solidarity with them in the fight for justice and peace.

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) - Lawyers for a man charged with killing five people at a Maryland newspaper office are again asking for more time to consider an insanity defense.

Attorneys on Thursday asked for 60 to 90 days longer to consider filing a plea of not criminally responsible by reason of insanity. A judge previously had set a Friday deadline for Jarrod Ramos to change his plea of not guilty.

HARRINGTON, Del. (AP) - Delaware authorities have charged a Maryland man with reckless endangering after a New Jersey man was fatally shot when he showed up at his ex-girlfriend's house.

State police say 25-year-old Devon Emfinger of Aberdeen was with the 24-year-old woman on Valentine's Day when 24-year-old Donte Demunguia from Absecon, New Jersey, entered her apartment at a public housing complex in Harrington.

The woman went downstairs and was confronted by Demunguia, who was shot as he went upstairs.

NORFOLK, Va. (AP) - Police say a mall in Virginia reopened hours after two people were injured when shots were fired there. 

The Norfolk Police Department tweeted Thursday that a fight inside the MacArthur Center in downtown Norfolk led to shots being fired. They say two people were taken to the hospital with injuries that aren't thought to be life-threatening. It's unclear if they were shot.

Police say the mall has reopened for business, but the interior entrance to the Nordstrom department store will remain closed while the scene was processed.

BALTIMORE (AP) - Authorities have identified the suspect in a shooting that critically wounded a hospital employee in an ambulance bay at the University of Maryland Medical Center.

Baltimore police said 26-year old Jamar Haughton is charged with attempted murder, assault, reckless endangerment and several firearm related charges. He was being held Monday evening at the Central Booking and Intake Facility.

Hospital officials said the shooting happened outside the downtown Baltimore hospital around 7 a.m. Monday.

HAMPTON, Va. (AP) - Maryland State Police say a Delaware man suspected of firing at troopers has been arrested.

News outlets report 20-year-old Isaiah Peppers was arrested Tuesday in Hampton, Virginia. Police say they found a revolver in his backpack and rounds of ammunition in his pockets.

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) - A fundraising campaign is being launched to build a memorial to honor the five people killed in a shooting at a Maryland newspaper.

Plans for the memorial that will also honor the First Amendment were discussed Thursday at the Annapolis City Council meeting with Mayor Gavin Buckley and other city officials.

Some Wicomico County Public Schools were ordered to “stay-in-place” yesterday after a shooting took place on Marshall Street in Salisbury.

The call came just after 12 noon when the Salisbury Police Department tweeted out that a male adult victim was being treated for non-life threatening injuries.

The suspect who was considered armed and dangerous was taken into custody by police.

The state-in-place order was lifted around 1:30 p.m.

COLLEGE PARK, Md. (AP) - The girlfriend of a woman who gunned down three co-workers at a Maryland warehouse told police her companion was prone to violent outbursts, heard voices in her head and had threatened her with a gun before September's rampage.

The girlfriend of shooter Snochia Moseley also told investigators the 26-year-old woman had been depressed due to money problems and didn't appear to be taking medication for her mental illness.

Police are searching for a man who is believed to be connected to a shooting near a Walmart in Pocomoke City.

The Salisbury Daily Times reports that police say they found one victim in the Walmart parking lot with an apparent gunshot wound in the leg.

He was taken to Peninsula Regional Medical Center with non-life threatening wounds.

The Worcester County Bureau of Investigations said that the suspect left in a black sedan.

He is described as a white male, about six feet tall weighing around 250 pounds.

The suspect is said to go by the nickname “Wreck”.

BALTIMORE (AP) - A judge has set a June 2019 trial date for a man accused of fatally shooting five staff members of the Maryland newspaper Capital Gazette earlier this year.

The Baltimore Sun reports Anne Arundel County Circuit Judge Laura Ripken moved the trial to next June 3 during a hearing Thursday in Annapolis. The trial was originally scheduled to begin in mid-January.

TOWSON, Md. (AP) - A Maryland high school was briefly placed on lockdown after authorities say a school resource officer fatally shot himself inside his office.

Baltimore County police spokeswoman Officer Jen Peach said at a news conference Monday that police and medics were called to Eastern Technical High School around 12:23 p.m. Peach said surveillance video showed the officer walking alone into his office in the school's basement. Faculty members heard a gunshot and responded.
