RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — More than 1,000 people have rallied at the Virginia Capitol against legislation in the Democratic-controlled General Assembly that would ease restrictions on abortion access.

Speakers urged the crowd Thursday to ask lawmakers to vote against the bills they argued would undo protections for pregnant women.

Measures that have passed the House and Senate would undo restrictions including a 24-hour waiting period before an abortion, as well a requirement that women seeking an abortion undergo an ultrasound and counseling.

BALTIMORE (AP) - Maryland's highest court says state officials can keep secret the names of applicants for abortion clinic licenses.

The Court of Appeals ruled Monday in an appeal filed by Andrew Glenn, Montgomery County director of the Maryland Coalition for Life, which opposes abortion rights.

Glenn argued he was entitled to the names under Maryland's Public Information Act. He maintained he wanted to protect women from clinic operators with checkered safety records.

Pickets showed up at the Easton Planned Parent office in the wake of efforts to defund the organization.

There were nearly 100 who were in front of the facility Saturday afternoon after a number of undercover videos were released involving the use of fetal tissue from abortions.

Congressman Andy Harris joined the protest.

The Eastern Shore Republican told WBOC that he opposes funding the organization because it is receiving money for providing the tissues.
