SALISBURY, MD---A donation to Delmarva Public Media (DPM) this fall not only will help keep unique programming on local airwaves, but also will assist in feeding families on the Eastern Shore.

Comprised of Salisbury University’s WSCL 89.5 FM and WSDL 90.7 FM, and the University of Maryland Eastern Shore’s WESM 91.3 FM, the three-station partnership hosts its annual end-of-year campaign November 16-December 31. Ten percent of all contributions received during that time will benefit the Maryland Food Bank Eastern Shore.

Perdue Farms is donating $1 million to support its Feeding America-affiliated food bank partners through its foundation.

WBOC reports that this is a companywide effort that provides protein to those struggling with their food budget.

Randy Day, CEO of Perdue Farms, noted that one in nine American struggle with getting enough food for themselves and their families.

It’s that time again when many local charity organizations are looking for some help to assist those in need.

WBOC reports that the Christian Shelter in Salisbury says it is looking for children’s coats for many who have been evicted from their homes.

James Barnes, head of the shelter, told the television station that the facility has accommodated nearly 1-thousand people this year adding that a third of them were children.

Meanwhile, the Maryland Food Bank is casting about for canned goods and other non-perishables.

BALTIMORE (AP) - Maryland is launching a supplemental food program for older residents.

Maryland Department of Aging Secretary Rona Kramer will officially kick off the initiative in Baltimore on Wednesday called "My Groceries to Go!"

It's a partnership between the department and the Maryland Food Bank with funding from the U.S. Agriculture Department.

The program promotes healthy eating and nutrition education while providing 40 pounds of nutritious food each month.

BALTIMORE, Md.- (AP) The Maryland Food Bank is kicking off Hunger Action Month.

The organization is holding a news conference Wednesday in Baltimore with Maryland State Police and the Department of Transportation.

Throughout the month, residents can donate nonperishable items at police barracks and certain Department of Transportation offices across the state.

The kickoff event will start a month of activities designed to raise public awareness of hunger.

MILFORD, Del. (AP) - The Food Bank of Delaware is planning to break ground next week on a $2.6 million expansion project at its Milford branch.

The expanded branch will help the organization meet a growing need in Kent and Sussex counties.
