Governor Larry Hogan has a 22 point lead over his Democratic challenger Ben Jealous in a new public opinion poll.

The Sarah T. Hughes Field Center at Goucher College  found the Republican leading Jealous 54 percent to 32 percent.

Nine percent of the voters were undecided.

The Baltimore Sun reports that around three-fourths of those surveyed said they were set on a particular candidate.

And Hogan led in every region of the state.

DOVER, Del. (AP) - Private-sector workers in Delaware could be forced to join a labor union in order to get or keep a job under legislation passed by the General Assembly.

The Democratically led House on Thursday voted 25-13 to approve the bill, which cleared the Democrat-led Senate last month. The legislation now goes to Democratic Gov. John Carney.

The bill permits private sector labor organizations and employers to enter into union security agreements to the extent allowed under federal law.

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Republican lawmakers are rejecting pro-labor and pro-Medicaid expansion tweaks Democratic Gov. Terry McAuliffe tried to make in the state budget through vetoes.

House Speaker William J. Howell said Wednesday that he'd directed the House clerk not to include the attempted vetoes in the final enrolled version of the budget, saying they were invalid.

The talks between the Ocean City police and the resort’s officials have stalled over the latest labor contract.

At issue is a cost of living adjustment which may have to go to arbitration.

Previous agreements have included an automatic annual 3 percent cost of living adjustment.

Union President Sgt. Shawn Jones told the Salisbury Daily Times that he wants to get his officers pay on par with other law enforcement agencies in the region.

The bargaining unit includes 90 officers from the rank 0f sergeant on down.

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) - Governor-elect Larry Hogan has named four Cabinet secretaries for his administration.

One of them, Secretary of Juvenile Services Sam Abed, will continue in the post he was appointed to by Hogan's predecessor, Gov. Martin O'Malley.

On Wednesday, Hogan named Delegate Kelly Schulz to be secretary of the Department of Labor, Licensing, and Regulation.
