RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - A legislative panel has rejected a bill to decriminalize adultery in Virginia.

Media outlets report that the Senate Courts of Justice Committee killed the measure on a voice vote Monday.

State law classifies marital infidelity as a misdemeanor punishable by a fine of $250. Democratic Sen. Scott Surovell of Fairfax County proposed keeping the $250 penalty but making adultery a civil offense.

DOVER, Del. (AP) - The state House of Representatives has approved a bill decriminalizing possession of small amounts of marijuana.

The legislation was approved Tuesday on a 24-to-14 party line vote, with no Republican support.

The bill, which now goes to the Senate, makes possession of an ounce or less of marijuana by adults a civil offense punishable by a fine of $100, rather than a crime.

Smoking marijuana in an area accessible to the public or in a moving vehicle would be a misdemeanor punishable by a fine of up to $200 and imprisonment of up to five days.

DOVER, Del. (AP) - A bill decriminalizing possession of small amounts of marijuana has cleared a Delaware legislative panel and is headed to the House floor for a vote.

House Public Safety and Homeland Security Committee members voted 5-to-4 Wednesday to release the bill after its chief sponsor said she would make several revisions to address concerns of police officials.

Law enforcement groups, including the Delaware State Police, nevertheless remain opposed to the bill.
