ban the box

Maryland lawmakers overrode the governor’s veto of a measure that would oversee the management of the state’s oysters.

The legislation would use environmental activists, scientists, watermen and seafood sellers along with an independent mediator that would oversee efforts to increase the oyster population.

WBOC reports that the Maryland Department of Natural Resources would then work with an advisory commission and the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Studies.

They would put together a consensus for how to improve the oyster population.

DOVER, Del. (AP) - The state House has approved legislation that prohibits state and local government agencies in Delaware from considering job applicants' criminal histories or credit histories during the initial application process.

Under revised legislation approved 31-to-8 on Tuesday, prospective government workers would no longer have to disclose a criminal record on a job application. The so-called "ban the box" bill would allow consideration of an applicant's criminal background only after a first interview.
