The NASA facility at Wallops is still in the process of planning to launch small satellites or CubeSats.

They’re used for small scale scientific exploration and will go up on designated commercial vehicles.

Wallops made the shortlist as one of four launch sites in part because the surrounding area is quiet and the facility already has the infrastructure.

It beat out Cape Canaveral, the Pacific Spaceport Complex—Alaska and Vandenberg Air Force Base in California.

Officials are hoping to begin construction next year.

Meanwhile, the first launch of the small satellites is set to take place next week from Rocket LAB's home Launch Complex 1 in New Zealand.
