Could there be a university on Virginia’s Eastern Shore?
That’s what one group is asking Governor Ralph Northam to consider.
Terry Malarkey, president of the University of the Eastern Shore of Virginia Foundation, told the Salisbury Daily Times that his organization will try to make it an election issue.
The proposal notes the region is close to Wallops and in Hampton roads as well as being near the barrier islands.
The plan expects the university would emphasize a STEM curriculum which consists of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
In addition, it would work with hospitals for their increasing needs.
The proposal expects a starting class of around a hundred that could produce over $4 million but could reach a student population of around 2-thousand that would generate $80 million.
