The Significance of Juneteenth

Congress has just approved legislationĀ  making Juneteenth a federal holiday. It is the day in 1865 when a Union General announced the end of slavery in Galveston, Texas two years after the Emanicipation Proclamation. Delmarva Public Media's Don Rush talked with Dr. Arlisha Norwood, a history professar at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, about the significance of that date.
