Plan to Reduce Need for Remedial Math Courses in Delaware Colleges

Sep 24, 2014

For those entering colleges in Delaware over 50 percent of the state’s public school students have to take remedial courses.

The state education leaders have worked out a plan that would allow students who pass a new math class in their senior year to be automatically guaranteed to take a college course for credit.

The Foundations of College Math would replace the normal fourth year math class and would emphasize the skills they need for college such as algebra, geometry and statistics.

The findings of the report released yesterday are being used by state education officials in an effort to better prepare students for college.
