The Maryland General Assembly will be considering legislation that would prohibit homeowner associations from giving away the legal rights of homeowners without their knowledge.

The measure is called the Sunset Island Act.

The Salisbury Daily Times reports that the condominium owners are having to pay out millions of dollars to fix construction problems after Ryan Homes refused to fix the buildings.

It’s the result of a legal agreement the condominium association leadership signed to fix previous construction problems.

The homeowners say they were never told about the new agreement.

Currently, there is nothing in Maryland state law that prohibits condominium leaders from signing away such rights without the knowledge of the home owners.
