An independent report says the Dewey Beach Police Department officers need more training and responsibilities.
In addition, the analysis says that there is a deep distrust between the department and certain city officials because of “perceived political interference”.
Dr. Gregory Warren, a retired Delaware State trooper wrote that the physical condition of the police facility is “woefully inadequate”.
He added that at times the department is understaffed.
Mayor T. J. Redefer told WRDE that the city has already raised police salaries and he hopes the report will allow the town to address other issues.
He pointed to morale as being critical to the success of the department.
