White Marlin Open Gets Underway

318 boats tried their luck on the first day of the 45th Annual White Marlin Open.

There were 382 signed up for the event.

The Salisbury Daily Times reports that a huge blue marlin was caught on the first day by the Auspicious from Palm Beach, Florida.

It weighed 881-pounds and was 128-inches long.

Angler Joe Rahman told the paper that it took around 50 minutes to bring it while nearly 90 miles out to sea.

The announced payout from the tournament is $5.4 million – a record for the annual event.
