Tie at White Marlin Open, But Pascual Jimenez Had the Edge

White Marlin Open logo

It was tie at this year’s White Marlin Open.

At least when it came to weight.

Both Gregory Giron and Pascual Jimenez both brought in white marlins weighing 83 pounds.

But in the end it was Jimenez who was set to take an award of $2.58 million while Giron will claim less than $130-thousand.

The difference in how the fish was caught that gave the edge to Jiminez.

The Salisbury Daily Times reports that Giron gaffed the fish meaning the boat used a sharp hook to stab the fish and lifted it in the boat.

Tournament rules do not rule out the technique but the fish that is not gaffed is considered the win of the two.

Final results will have to await a polygraph test.
