Suspicious Package on UD Campus a "Hoax"

creative commons

A suspicious package found on the Newark campus of University of Delaware has turned out to be a hoax.

The Wilmington News Journal reports that it was found inside a trash truck this morning forcing the roads to be closed while police investigated.

All foot traffic was barred near two dorms around Haines Street but neither was evacuated and people were told to stay inside.

A University facilities crew found the package around 7:30 a.m. in the back of their trash truck after they emptied it and notified the campus community to stay away from the area.

Police announced that the area was safe at 10:15 a.m.
