John Dorman has quit as mayor of Snow Hill.
His resignation is effective at the end of this month.
The Salisbury Daily Times reports that Dorman submitted his resignation at a Town Council meeting on Tuesday night.
With his resignation the position will show up on the ballot along with seats on the council in May of next year.
Meanwhile, the city council will meet to hash out a replacement for Dorman.
