Same Day Voter Registration Bill Introduced in Delaware

classroomclipart.com

It could become even easier to cast your ballot in Delaware.

Legislation was introduced yesterday that would allow for same day registration for special and general elections as well as primaries.

Governor Jack Markell said that research shows there is no more effective way to increase voter participation.

State Election Commissioner Elaine Manlove said that there has been online voter registration since 2004 but noted that it has always been a problem for voters to print, sign and mail out the form.

But Republicans urged caution.

State House of Representatives Minority Leader Danny Short issued a statement saying that while the government should encourage eligible voters to register the state should take great care before making any changes that could undermine the public’s faith in the process.

Markell said he has confidence in the new system.
