ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) - Hunting enthusiasts are rallying in Annapolis in favor of more Sunday hunting.

The Maryland Hunting Coalition is sponsoring Thursday's event. The group supports a bill in the General Assembly to allow Sunday deer hunting in Baltimore County, one of three that prohibit the practice. The others are Howard and Prince George's counties.

Sunday hunting was banned in Maryland from colonial times until 2003. Since then, hunters and the Department of Natural Resources have successfully pushed to expand Sunday hunting, county by county. The DNR says hunting is the best way to control the deer population.

Hunting proponents met strong resistance last year from horse riders and bird watchers. They want to keep Sundays safe for their woodland activities.

The DNR says it wants to make Sunday deer hunting uniform statewide.
