NEWARK, Del. (AP) - Delaware State Police are investigating after a boy was found unresponsive in a pool at a home in Newark.

Troopers say about 8:35 a.m. Wednesday, a neighbor saw a 1-year-old boy lying in about 18 inches of water in the cover of an in-ground pool. Police say the neighbor notified the 16- and 13-year-old who were caring for the child, and called 911.

New Castle County Paramedics who went to the home say the child did not have a pulse and was not breathing when they arrived.

The boy was taken to Christiana Hospital in critical condition, where police spokesman Master Cpl. Jeffrey Hale says the boy regained a pulse. He says the boy was transferred to Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children.

This story has been corrected to show that the victim is 1 year old, not around 4 years old.
