DOVER, Del. (AP) - A new Delaware law targets poachers by allowing the review of wildlife violations in 39 other states.
Gov. Jack Markell signed legislation Monday to join the Wildlife Violator Compact. State regulators can now use member states' suspension data to deny applicants with records of poaching and other wildlife violations. Delaware's records will be open to other members.
The House passed the legislation near midnight June 30, the final night of the legislative session.
Senate Majority Leader David McBride, who sponsored the legislation, says making information about people who have shown disregard for hunting and fishing laws easily available to license issuers is a big step in keeping violators from threatening Delaware wildlife.
