Ocean Pines Looks for Alternative to Euthanizing Geese

dnr.delaware.gov

Ocean Pines Association officials will be looking for alternative ways to handle the over population of geese.

Last month the Association euthanized around 290 in an effort to deal with the impact on water quality in the Southside Pond.

WBOC reports that at last night’s meeting of the Association organizer Mary Wilson wanted more transparency about its decision.

She said there were a number of causes for the water quality that had nothing to do with the geese.

The television station reports that the pond suffers from pollutants due to local poultry operations, sediment and a lack of filtration.

Ocean Pines General Manager John Baily told the meeting that the Association is trying to make sure that euthanasia was not the only solution to the geese population problem.

Meanwhile, Wilson wants to create a number of working groups to deal with different issues.

The next community meeting is set for September 18th in the Ocean Pines Library Meeting room.
