WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) - Officials in Delaware say seven students have graduated from a new employment training program that prepares them to become certified nursing assistants.
The students graduated from the eight-week program, called Generation, on Tuesday. Gov. Jack Markell gave the keynote address at the ceremony.
Officials say the training program, done in partnership with Delaware Technical Community College, targets low-income 18 to 29-year-olds who are unemployed or underemployed. Students who complete the program, pass a certification test and interview successfully are guaranteed jobs with employers in Delaware. The students who graduated Tuesday are all planning to work with Saint Francis Healthcare and Cadia Rehabilitation. Officials say a second group of eight students has already begun classes.
Officials say Generation plans to expand into other fast-growing professions in the coming year.
