NEWARK, Del. (AP) - Authorities say an early morning shooting and apparent robbery has injured an Applebee's employee who was leaving work.

The News Journal of Wilmington reports officers responded to a report of a shooting at an Applebee's parking lot around 2:15 a.m. Saturday. When police arrived, they found a man with a gunshot wound to an unspecified extremity.

Newark police spokesman Sgt. Gerald Bryda said in a statement that police later determined the man was walking to his vehicle when two unknown men confronted him. One of the men had a gun. The employee was shot and the two unknown men fled.

The employee was taken to the hospital, where he is described a stable.

Further details have not been released. This shooting was the first reported by Newark police this year.
