New Survey on Substandard Housing in Accomack County

all-free-download.com

The Accomack County Board of Supervisors is turning its attention to substandard housing.

The Salisbury Daily Times reports that a preliminary report found a number of areas with housing in stages of disrepair.

They range from Gospel Temple Road near Keller and East Horntown to Graysville and Whitesville.

Bobbie Wert with the Accomack-Northampton Planning District Commission noted that there were even homes without indoor plumbing.

Supervisor Reneta Major told the paper that it was appalling that such housing could exist in the 21st century.

With the survey done the county will now submit the assessment needs to the Department of Housing and Community Development.

The department will then assign a community development specialist to develop a planning strategy with a management team.
