ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) - A VA Maryland Health Care System official says the system is reaching out to as many health care providers in Baltimore and Baltimore County to address an average wait time of 81 days for new patients seeking a primary care physician.
Dr. Adam Robinson, the system's chief of staff, said in a telephone interview Tuesday with The Associated Press that he was "disturbed" and "embarrassed" by findings in an audit by the U.S. Veterans Affairs Department.
Robinson says he wants veterans to know he hopes to rebuild whatever trust they feel has been damaged by the waits.
Robinson says about 1,000 people fit into the category of those who have had to wait that long. He says the system has called more than 900 to get them faster medical consultations.
