Maryland Law Clinic in Eastern Shore Pollution Case Gets ABA Award

BALTIMORE (AP) - The University of Maryland says an environmental law clinic suing Perdue and an Eastern Shore poultry grower over farm runoff is being awarded for its work.

The university says the Environmental Law Clinic at the Carey School of Law will receive the award from the American Bar Association in August. The association gives the annual award to an individual or organization for leadership and contributions to environmental protection and sustainable development.

The university's clinic is representing the Waterkeepers Alliance, which claims Berlin-based Hudson Farm and Salisbury-based Perdue Farms Inc. are polluting a nearby waterway.

The suit has prompted criticism of the clinic by the governor and moves in the legislature to restrict funding of the school.
