A half-a-million dollar lawsuit has been filed in the salmonella outbreak at the Chincoteague Chili Chowder Cook Off.

The Salisbury Daily Times reports that Charles Coffield from Pennsylvania filed the suit that said he became ill after eating the chowder.

The suit was filed against Shrimp Heads Inc.

Coffield said he ate one sample and bowl of chowder offered up by the restaurant.

A day later he became ill.

Tests found that he did suffer from salmonella.

Coffield is asking for a jury trial.
