DOVER, Del. (AP) - Jury selection has begun in a trial against four of the inmates accused of taking part in a riot at a maximum-security prison in Delaware that killed a prison guard.
Jury selection started Monday in the first of five trials against a total of 18 inmates charged in the riot that killed Lt. Steven Floyd.
The inmates have been split into five separate groups of defendants to stand trial on charges of participating in a hostage-taking and uprising. Each group will face its own jury.
The first trial is set to start Oct. 22, a full year after the inmates were indicted on riot-related charges. Judge William C. Carpenter Jr. told potential jurors this trial may take up to four weeks.
