The Ida May was the big winner of the 59th Annual Skipjack race off Deal Island yesterday.
It turned out to be a repeat performance of two years ago with the smaller but swifter vessel dominating the race.
The Salisbury Daily Times reports that it was the third overall win since the vessel’s restoration.
It is owned by Gordon Gladden and his brother Elbert Gladden the boat’s captain.
But celebration of the traditional vessel of the Chesapeake Bay will continue next weekend with the National Folk Festival in Salisbury.
Stoney Whitelock’s the Minnie V built in 1906 will be docked at the Port of Salisbury.
Visitors will have a chance of hear him talk about the restoration of the boat and his experiences on the water.
