Governor John Carney is urging Delaware lawmakers to take an up or down vote on gun legislation in the General Assembly.

The Wilmington News Journal reports that the governor’s remarks come as three pieces of gun legislation remain stalled.

Perhaps the most controversial is a proposed ban on assault weapons which is having trouble getting out of committee.

Another measure would raise the age to buy a rifle from 18 to 21.

That measure was tabled just before Easter Break.

A third bill would ban bump stocks that that increase the fire rate of a semi-automatic weapon.

The House has yet to vote on a revised Senate version which reduced the penalty from a felony to a misdemeanor.

Meanwhile a group of gun rights advocates gathered outside Legislative Hall calling for the state Senate to pull gun safety legislation from the agenda.

WBOC reports that Paul Johnson one of the organizers said that he believes the recent gun proposals were unconstitutional.

The rally took place the same day that the state Senate was to vote on legislation that would raise the age limit to buy a rifle from 18 to 21.

State Senator Brian Bushwell (D-Dover) told the television station that he intends to vote for the measure.

But he admitted some of the other measures might not be so easy.
