Frederick Schools Reopen Two Days After Shooting

high school website

FREDERICK, Md. (AP) - Students have returned to two schools in Frederick that were closed following a shooting that wounded two teenage boys.

A Frederick County Public Schools spokesman says Frederick High School and West Frederick Middle School reopened without incident Friday, two days after the shooting.

Police haven't announced any arrests in the Wednesday night shooting outside the Frederick High gymnasium, where a juvenile varsity basketball game with a crosstown rival was underway.

Police say the 14- and 15-year-old victims knew the shooter or shooters. They say gang violence or the heated school rivalry are among the possible motives.

The Frederick High School boys' varsity basketball team had beaten the same rival, Gov. Thomas Johnson High, the night before the shootings.
