By a vote of 3-to-2 the Dewey Beach Town Commission decided to accept the long-awaited audit on the police department’s involvement in a military surplus equipment program.
The Wilmington News Journalreports that the report will not be available to the public for another two days.
The paper reports commissioners Paul Bauer and Courtney Riordan opposed accepting the report saying they were concerned about it not having been finalized.
There has been controversy surrounding the program when the department began selling items and put the money into a restricted account that could only be used by the police.
The News Journal reports that the department bought two Chevy Tahoes with money it got from the sale of a bulldozer it no longer needed among other items.
