Delaware Legislative Panel Puts Finishing Touches on Budget

DOVER, Del. (AP) - Members of the Delaware legislature's budget writing committee have finished work on a $3.8 billion operating budget for the fiscal year starting July 1.

The Joint Finance Committee wrapped up its work on the fiscal 2015 operating budget on Thursday.

The spending plan, which still must be approved by both chambers of the General Assembly, is about $20 million less than the budget that Gov. Jack Markell's proposed in January.

During the markup process, lawmakers made about $39 million in reallocations and reductions to Markell's plan, while adding $18 million in spending that he had not proposed.

The final plan represents a general fund appropriation increase of about 2.5 percent over the current fiscal year.
