Delaware History Museum System Expands

Delaware Government Website

DOVER, Del. (AP) - Having recently received accreditation as a museum system, the Delaware Division of Historical and Cultural Affairs is expected to move much of its collection to a new facility within a year.

The Delaware State News reports the division has committed to adding a new space for man of the more than 4 million objects it maintains. Director Tim Slavin says intended building in Dover will be larger and more secure, featuring specialized climate control and fire suppression systems.

He says the facility is focused on collections, serving as "a kind of behind-the-scenes function of a museum."

Around a dozen employees will move with the furniture, art, archaeological finds and other items. The building will be shared with the Department of Insurance, which is slated to move in first, in July.
