A candidate for Delaware state representative has been arrested for breaking into the home of his child’s mother on Labor Day.

The Wilmington News Journal reports that U’Gundi Jacobs who is challenging state Representative Stephanie Bolden in the Democratic primary has pleaded not guilty.

In addition he is out on $1-thousand bond.

The paper reports that on his Facebook page Jacobs calls the arrest a “smear campaign”.

The incident allegedly started around 5 a.m. on Monday according to a court affidavit when police responded to a burglary complaint in Wilmington.

Police say a woman in the house said she had become alarmed after Jacobs woke her up and smelled of alcohol.

Court documents say that the 47 year-old Jacobs began searching for a male in the house adding that he wanted to see his child.

Police say that the woman warned him that she would call the authorities after which he reportedly left a short time before they arrived.

An arrest warrant was then issued for first-degree criminal trespassing.
