official photo

Longtime Delaware state auditor Tom Wagner is calling it quits as he approaches the end of his seventh term.

He is only one of two statewide elected Republicans in the First State and was elected in 1989.

WBOC reports the in a statement Wagner said that the decision not to seek reelection was a bittersweet moment noting that his political career spanned more than 30 years when he started out as Mayor of Camden.

The Delaware Republican said that his decision was based on health concerns that have resulted in a kidney transplant.

There are two Democrats running for his office – former state Representative Dennis Williams and Rehoboth Beach Commissioner Kathy McGuinness.
