Craft Beer Legislation Gets Boost from Eastern Shore Panel

Don Rush

Supporters of legislation that would ease restrictions on the craft beer industry held a forum at the Salisbury University Art Gallery yesterday afternoon.

Len Foxwell, chief of staff for Comptroller Peter Franchot, stressed the need to end the restrictions that tied craft producers to distributors.

In addition, the measure would lift production limits at the breweries.

Meanwhile, there is another measure that would return many of the restrictions that had been eased by last year’s legislation.

The panel was called the “Craft Beer Legislation Roundtable” and all those present supported the measure that would lift restrictions on the industry.

It was moderated by Don Rush from Delmarva Public Radio.

Participants ranged from the local brewer Tall Tales and Hoppers Tap Room to the chambers of commerce for Salisbury and Ocean City.

The group said that states like Virginia and Delaware were getting the upper hand on the craft brewing industry because Maryland, they said, had the toughest restrictions.
