Colorado Superintendent Jerry Wilson to Head Worcester Public Schools

NEWARK, Md. (AP) - The Worcester County Board of Education has selected a Colorado educator as its new schools superintendent.

Jerry Wilson will replace Jon Andes on July 1, pending approval from the Maryland Department of Education. Wilson was chosen from four candidates after a nationwide search that began last year.

Wilson is a native of Silver Spring. He has 18 years of experience as a superintendent, and has been the leader of the Poudre School District in Colorado since 2006. The Worcester County Board of Education says Wilson increased student achievement, improved graduation rates and reduced dropout rates during his time in Colorado.

Wilson will replace Jon Andes, who has served as superintendent of the high-performing school district for 16 years.
