Bill in Annapolis Gets Push Back from Craft Brewers

Don Rush

A new piece of legislation has some brewers up in arms.

The measure in Annapolis would raise the cap on the amount of beer that they could produce for consumption from 500 barrels to 2-thousand.But the Salisbury Daily Times reports that brewers are taking exception to the bill’s restrictions including on being cultural hubs past 9 p.m.

They say this could eat into the most productive time for the breweries.

But sponsors of the bill say that they want to keep them from becoming bars.

Meanwhile, Delegate Chris Adams, an Eastern Shore Republican, says that this represents a compromise and noted that only Class 5 breweries will be effected.

He went to say that they could still apply for a class 7 or 8 license.

Those like Burley Oak in Berlin and Evolution in Salisbury are not Class 5 breweries.

The next scheduled hearing in Annapolis on the bill is set for tomorrow March 29th
