Planned Parenthood of Delaware is reeling from charges that it’s Wilmington clinic performed “meat market style assembly line” abortions.
Two former clinic nurses told a packed state Senate hearing yesterday that patients were put at risk for infection and other serious medical problems by neglecting proper standards of care.
The two nurses say they resigned their positions last year and urged state officials to deal with the problems they charge were ignored or denied for months.
Jayne Mitchell-Werbrich and her former supervisor Joyce Vaskonis both told lawmakers that they were not opposed to abortion but rather unsafe medical practices
The Wilmington News Journalreports that state officials released a list of more than a dozen violations found during a recent investigation triggered by emergencies at the Shipley Street clinic.
The paper says that those emergencies resulted in patients being transported by ambulance to a hospital.
In addition, the News Journal reports that the Division of Professional Regulation said it found evidence of unspecified unprofessional conduct by Dr. Tymothy Liveright who was until recently the clinic’s primary physician.
The paper reports that efforts to contact the physician were unsuccessful.
Legislation to more closely regulate clinics that perform abortion is expected to be introduced in Dover.
