Allen Harim Gets Break from Sussex County on Deboning Project

The Sussex County Board of Appeals voted this week to allow Allen Harim to move forward with its deboning operation at its new Millsboro headquarters.

Its decision will now allow both spray irrigation and the hauling of wastewater if the poultry company gets the necessary state permits.

WBOC reports Allen Harim had felt that earlier the board had been too restrictive and said it was working with the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control to get the necessary permits.

But some local residents say they do not necessarily trust DNREC.

Keith Steck with Keep Our Wells Clean told the television station that the decision raises concerns noting that his group has challenged DNREC’s authority to do this.

That appeal is still pending.
