An incident in Denton of an apparently rabid fox has officials in Caroline County on alert.

On October 14th Mark Harding was leaving a friend’s home when a fox ran out in front of his car, bit him and then went inside the home where it also bit two dogs and scratched or bit the owner of the home Dona Fountain.

Amanda Cook from the Humane Society in Caroline County emphasized to WBOC that the disease is fatal if not treated.

Rabies has been a recurring problem for Maryland.

The latest study found Maryland had 384 cases of rabies.

In 2009 it ranked 7th in the nation.
