Salisbury University seeks an experienced leader to serve as General Manager of public radio stations WSCL FM and WSDL FM.
The stations are licensed to the Salisbury University Foundation, but a process is underway to transfer licenses to Salisbury University, part of the University System of Maryland. WSCL and WSDL serve listeners in Delaware, the Eastern Shore of Maryland, and surrounding areas. The stations provide classical music and news on WSCL and news/ information programs on WSDL. Both are affiliates of NPR, PRI and APM. The experienced leader will have the opportunity to help reshape and provide creative vision for the evolution of the stations.
Primary Job Duties: Responsible for overall direction and administration of WSCL and WSDL radio stations programs and services; ensures that all aspects are managed in a prudent, legal, sustainable, and ethical manner within the best interests of the University. Manages all day-to-day operations including programming, development, marketing and engineering activities. Develops and manages implementation of station strategic plan; develops, implements and manages a major giving program and the station budget, as well as monitors, controls and plans budget expenditures. Supervises staff and oversees equipment and facilities. In addition, the Station Manager is responsible for protecting the radio stations license within FCC, NPR, and CPB regulations, guidelines, and standards. Increase revenue sources; community outreach; training students for professional work in broadcasting; and working with Communication Arts Department and other relevant programs to increase student media opportunities.
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Broadcasting, Management, or related field and five (5) years of experience in public radio management. At least three (3) years of supervisory experience.
Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Must have on-air broadcasting skills, knowledge of broadcast programming and emerging technologies essential. Skill in budget preparation and fiscal management, ability to foster a professional, cooperative work environment. Superior communication skills, demonstrated ability to build and lead a team of professionals and volunteers, and a commitment to audience service. Strong knowledge of FCC, NPR, and CPB regulations, guidelines, and standards. Significant experience related to fundraising programs and activities are preferred. University experience preferred.
